One of Todd Rundgrens more obscure tracks from an album called RA (which was actually a Utopia album) has an epic song called Singring and the Glass Guitar. It has one of my favorite solos. For long drives, I like nothing more than blasting Dicky Betts solo in Blue Sky, with the windows down. Carlos Santana's melodic soloing on Europa is also a fave and Knopflers playing on Sultans of Swing was groundbreaking. Ditto on David Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb. I am definately a huge fan of the more melodic soulful soloing. Don't ask me to choose a favorite though I can't. Oh, I forgot Larry Carlton's solo in Steely Dan's My Old School and his own Room 335. Amazing stuff.

I love so many guitar solos, but I think one of my top 5 would have to be all guitar solos in "Kissing The Shadows" by Children of Bodom.

Slash's solo in Sweet Child O' Mine is the reason I started playing guitar. Soulful, bluesy; he just makes the guitar cry and looked like a badass doing it.
